Find a DNMS Therapist

You can look for a local or long-distance DNMS therapist. A local therapist may have lots of skill and experience with the DNMS or very little. Long-distance DNMS therapists specialize in this model, and have lots of skill and experience. To find a local therapist, you can look up names from a list on our web page, or we can post a referral request for you to the DNMS listserv. You're responsible for screening potential therapists and for determining who is right for you.

TO FIND A LOCAL DNMS THERAPIST

Option 1 - Web Site List

In September 2008 the 7-Module DNMS Home Study Course was released. Click here for a list of therapists who have purchased the Course. As therapists finish the Course, their names will be posted here too. Later, we will post names of therapists who have completed a DNMS Certification Program.

Option 2 - Referral Request on the DNMS Listserv

The DNMS Professional Yahoo e-mail discussion list (listserv) has a membership of over 650 licensed therapists who have either taken a DNMS training or purchased the DNMS book. We can post a referral request something like this:

"Someone is looking for a DNMS therapist in Anytown, USA.
If you can help, please make contact at youraddress@aol.com."

If one of the listserv members serves your area, they'll read your referral request and e-mail you directly. If you'd like a referral request posted for you, e-mail Shirley Jean Schmidt at SJS@DNMSInstitute.com. Tell her where you're located; indicate any important preferences (e.g. therapist gender or speciality), or if you need the therapist to take a particular insurance. Referral requests are usually posted to the list within 24 hours.

TO FIND A LONG DISTANCE DNMS THERAPIST

There are several ways to work with a therapist long distance.

Option 1 - Drive In or Fly In

You can drive in or fly in for intense work over several hours or days. (For example: If you live three hours away from your therapist, you could drive in once a month for one full day of face-to-face therapy. Or, if you have to fly in, you could do four long weekends a year.) Weekly phone sessions can keep the process going between face-to-face visits.

Option 2 - Internet Video-Conferencing

To do therapy with internet video-conferencing, both you and your therapist would need a webcam and a computer loaded with Skype (free video-conferencing software). Sessions can be scheduled as usual (e.g. weekly or biweekly).

Long Distance Therapy with Shirley Jean Schmidt

Shirley Jean is set up for drive-in, fly-in, and internet video-conferencing. If you're interested in working long distance with her, go to www.shirleyjeanschmidt.com and read about her practice. Then if you'd like to move forward, call or e-mail her to set up an initial interview.

Long Distance Therapy with Another Experienced DNMS Therapist

Some therapists are set up for both options, some for just one or the other. If you're interested in working long distance with someone besides Shirley Jean, e-mail her at SJS@DNMSInstitute.com with the relevant information. Indicate what type of long distance therapy you're interested in doing (e.g. fly-in, drive-in, or internet video-conferencing). Indicate if you have need to stay within a specific geographic region (e.g. New England or Florida). Indicate any important preferences (e.g. therapist gender or speciality). And indicate whether you need the therapist to take a specific type of insurance. Shirley Jean will endeavor to pair you with someone who matches what you need.
